Today marks the official launch of “Paramount+ with Showtime,” marking the first time that Showtime content is available within the Paramount+ streaming service. But unfortunately, this new merger comes with some losses.
Let’s get into it!
Just last week, Paramount announced that it had canceled and scrapped “Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies,” “The Game,” “Queen of the Universe” and “Star Trek: Prodigy,” prior to its merger, removing all of the titles on June 27. However, today, Deadline has confirmed that more shows have wondered off the service including series “From Cradle to Stage,” “Ghislaine: Partner in Crime,” “Inside Amy Schumer,” “Tell Me a Story,” and films “Fantasy Football,” and “Snow Day.”
In addition to several originals being removed, Paramount+ also removed dozens of Nickelodeon series including All in with Cam Newton, Allegra’s Window, Becca’s Bunch, Bella and the Bulldogs, Crashletes, Digby Dragon, The Fresh Beat Band, The HALO Effect, Legendary Dudas, Monsters vs. Aliens, Mutt & Stuff, Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, Peter Rabbit, Pig Goat Banana Cricket, Ride and The Troop.
All of these shows now join the Paramount+ original series “Blood & Treasure,” “The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder,” “Players,” “The Twilight Zone,” “Interrogation,” “Coyote,” “No Activity,” “Guilty Party,” and “The Harper House” which were removed in January 2023, nearly wiping out Paramount+’s original slate.
These moves are not new as Warner Bros. Discovery canceled “Batgirl” and purged many originals and library titles last summer and Disney just purged titles “Willow” from Disney+ and “Y: The Last Man” from Hulu, among many others.
I am hoping that these moves stop soon, as if streaming services such as Netflix, Peacock or Apple TV+ begin to remove content massively, fans will be left frustrated and the fate of streaming will worsen over time.
