After the box office success of the most recent Super Mario Bros. Movie, Universal’s Illumination and Nintendo are reportedly closing a deal on a Legend of Zelda movie, as Universal looks to expand its animated film catalog.
Let’s get into it!
On The Hot Mic with Jeff Sneider and John Rocha, Sneider revealed that Universal is reportedly closing “a big deal” with Nintendo and Illumination to make a The Legend of Zelda movie, following the success of their previous collaboration on “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” which has become the highest-grossing film based on a video game of all time.
The Japanese action-adventure video game has been considered one of Nintendo’s most successful franchises. It follows various incarnations of Link, a brave young man of the elf-like Hylian race, and Princess Zelda, a magical princess who is the mortal reincarnation of the goddess Hylia, as they fight to save the magical land of Hyrule from Ganon, an evil warlord turned demon king.
It is currently unknown when or if this deal will go through, however, I will try my best to keep you up-to-date on any new developments!
