Blockbuster
Could Blockbuster be making a return? Many fans around the United States are dying to know what’s next for the iconic brand, as they discovered a cryptic message on Blockbuster’s official website.
Let’s get into it!
If you head over to www.Blockbuster.com, you’ll encounter the sentence “We’re Working on Rewinding Your Movie” on PC and “Be Kind While We Rewind” on mobile devices, just below the iconic logo.
For those not familiar with the Blockbuster brand, the company used to use the slogan “Be Kind, Rewind” as a promotion for all of their video stores nationwide. Blockbuster’s Twitter feed has also been active recently, teasing an upcoming project of some sort.
So what’s the deal with Blockbuster?
Blockbuster’s History
In the 1990’s and early 2000’s, Blockbuster was known across almost every household in the country, which quickly gained popularity due to the retail stores’ variety and pricing! Blockbuster started off as a small DVD rental chain, later growing to over 9,000 locations nationwide!
The brand then competed against Netflix, who launched a DVD mail service which also thrived during the 1990’s and 2000’s, which is now a streaming service and the king of streaming.
However, the chain didn’t always have a great history, as in 2010, the company filed for bankruptcy with almost $1 billion in debt, closing thousands of its stores nationwide, due to their main competitor Netflix. The next year, Blockbuster and its remaining retail locations were purchased by Dish Network for $320 million USD.
Ever since, the brand has been very quiet, with Dish Network not utilizing the brand at all since its purchase.

So What’s the Deal with Blockbuster?
Recently, the company returned to the spotlight as the company re-launched their official website with the slogan “We’re Working on Rewinding Your Movie,” causing the media to buzz about a potential re-launch of the iconic retail chain.
However, keep in mind, this change was first discovered in November 2022, with Dish never officially announcing their future plans for the brand. Some sources believe the brand’s Twitter feed and website re-launch could hint towards a soft re-launch, meanwhile, others believe that this change may not be anything significant, and could just be teasing a small collaboration in the future.
