
Comic-Con International is an event mainly dedicated to comic lovers, that takes place every 2-3 years. It usually rotates locations around the United States, but is usually in held on the west coast. Many popular studios like Marvel, DC, FOX, Crunchyroll, Netflix, Disney, etc. usually attend to promote upcoming content for fans. This year, after many years of the COVID-19 pandemic delays, I expect fans not to be disappointed! Today, I will be recapping all of the announcements from this extended weekend.
Let’s get into it!
LEGO
- Avatar Sets – LEGO has announced 3 brand-new sets based on James Cameron’s Avatar franchise. The Neytiri & Thanator vs. AMP Suit Quaritch set, Jake & Neytiri’s First Banshee Flight set, and Floating Mountains: Site 26 & RDA Samson set will be released on October 1, 2022 alongside the previously announced Toruk Makto & Tree of Souls set. These sets are being released to promote the upcoming film Avatar: The Way of Water releasing in theaters this December.
Paramount
- Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves – On July 21, guests were given an exclusive first look at Paramount Pictures and eOne’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, set to release in theaters on March 3, 2023. A first look and trailer were released on Thursday, hyping up the film’s upcoming release.
- Rugrats – On July 21, fans of the iconic series were given a teaser trailer for season 2, ahead of its release along with a season 3 renewal announcement. Set to premiere exclusively on Paramount+, no release date has been announced.
- The Tidal Zone – On July 21, it was announced that the sponge that lives in a pineapple under the sea will be getting a SpongeBob universe crossover special, titled The Tidal Zone. This “multiversal” crossover special will see SpongeBob SquarePants, Kamp Koral and The Patrick Star Show all combine for a good ole under the sea adventure! Set to premiere on Nickelodeon in November, no release date announced.
- Beavis and Butt-Head – On July 21, new footage of the iconic characters Beavis and Butt-Head was revealed, specifically of the duo watching videos of the K-Pop group BTS and TikTok. These clips were shown to promote the upcoming revival (aka season 9) for Paramount+. Set to premiere on August 4, exclusively on Paramount+.
- Avatar Films – On July 22, at a panel about Avatar, Avatar Studios announced that the first of three animated Avatar films will focus on Aang – the hero of the original series. The other two films have been confirmed to be in the works. No release date has been announced.
- Transformers: Earthspark – On July 22, at the Transformers panel, Nickelodeon confirmed the diverse voice cast for the upcoming series. Set to premiere in November exclusively on Paramount+, no release date has been announced.
- Star Trek: Picard – At the Star Trek panel, the third season of Picard was teased with a short clip and poster. Set to premiere exclusively on Paramount+, no release date has been announced.
- Star Trek: Lower Decks – At the Star Trek panel, the third season of Lower Decks was also teased with a new trailer and poster. Set to premiere August 25, exclusively on Paramount+.
ABC
- Abbott Elementary – On July 21, at the Abbott Elementary discussion panel, both creators and cast revealed that the show has been renewed for season 2. In addition, the series has been bumped from a 13 episode to 22 episode season order.
Disney
- National Treasure: Edge of History – On July 21, fans were given a first look at the cast of this new installment of the National Treasure franchise with a teaser trailer promoting the new series’ release. The teaser trailer was later released within the Disney+ app. Set to premiere exclusively on Disney+, no release date has been announced.
- Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur – On July 21, guests were given a fist look at the upcoming Marvel animated series coming soon to Disney Channel. The creators and cast came together to showcase some amazing footage and new concept art promoting the new series. Set to premiere in Early 2023 on Disney Channel, no release date has been announced.
- The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder – On July 23, the cast of the new series assembled at Comic-Con to tease the upcoming third season. Set to premiere exclusively on Disney+, no release date has been announced.
Netflix
- Masters of the Universe: Revolution – On July 21, Netflix gave guests an exclusive look at the cast and animation style. This is set to be a sequel to last year’s Masters of the Universe: Revalation. Set to premiere on Netflix, no release date has been announced.
- He-Man and the Masters of the Universe – On July 21, fans were treated with a brand-new trailer for the upcoming third season of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Set to premiere August 18 on Netflix.
- BRZRKR Anime Series – On July 22, Keanu Reeves himself arrived at San Diego Comic-Con to give guests a special look at the upcoming BRZRKR anime series. Set to premiere on Netflix, confirmed for two seasons.
Amazon Studios
- The Wheel of Time: Origins – On July 21, some behind-the-scenes footage of season 2 was shown along with a season 3 renewal announcement. Set to premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, no release date has been announced.
- The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power – On July 21, a new trailer was revealed for the upcoming series based on The Lord of the Rings franchise. Set to premiere September 2 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
DC/Warner Bros.
- “SynderVerse” IS OVER!? – On July 22, Jim Lee stated there are no currently plans to expand on the “SynderVerse” in the DCEU as of right now. Disappointing fans who enjoyed past films such as Justice League and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
- Black Adam – On July 23, a sneak peek at the upcoming film was revealed with Johnston on stage. Set to premiere on October 21.
- Shazam! Fury of the Gods – On July 23, fans got a sneak peek at the upcoming film with a new trailer. Set to premiere on December 21.
- Batwheels – On July 23, fans were given a special looking at the upcoming Cartoonito series with a trailer. A prequel special titled “Secret Origin of Batwheels” was also announced to premiere on Cartoonito on HBO Max in celebration of “Batman Day!” Set to be released September 17 , exclusively on HBO Max.
Marvel Studios
- Deadpool & Logan – On July 21, it was announced that three Rated R titles – Deadpool, Deadpool 2 and Logan would be available to stream starting July 22, exclusively on Disney+ in the United States. In addition, a Deadpool’s Chimichanga food truck was giving out free chimichangas to guests on July 22 & 23 to celebrate the occasion.
- X-Men ’97 – On July 22, new footage and cast were revealed for the upcoming X-Men: The Animated Series reboot. Set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ in Fall 2023, renewed for season 2. No release date has been announced.
- What If…? – On July 22, a special look at What If…? season 2 was revealed, with guests treated to a surprise screening of the first episode from season 2. Set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ in Early 2023, renewed for season 3. No release date has been announced.
- Spider-Man: Freshman Year – On July 22, new character looks and cast were revealed for the upcoming animated series, Spider-Man: Freshman Year. Set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ in 2024, renewed for season 2 (aka Spider-Man: Sophomore Year). No release date has been announced.
- Marvel Zombies – On July 22, fans were given a special update on the upcoming animated series from Marvel Animation. Some crew members working on the series revealed that it will definitely deliver with “gore and grossness.” Set to premiere in 2024 exclusively on Disney+, no release date has been announced.
- I Am Groot – On July 22, a new trailer and poster were released for the short series featuring Baby Groot! Set to premiere August 10, exclusively on Disney+. Renewed for season 2, consisting of 5 shorts!
- She-Hulk: Attorney at Law – On July 23, Marvel fans were given a first look at the upcoming MCU series, streaming soon. Set to premiere August 17, exclusively on Disney+.
- Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – On July 23, in Hall H, a teaser trailer was released for the upcoming film. Set to premiere on November 11, 2022.
- Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania – On July 23, Marvel fans got to see a first look at the upcoming third Ant-Man film. A first look teaser was released, revealing guest stars M.O.D.O.K. and Kang the Conqueor. Set to premiere on February 17, 2023.
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 – On July 23, a new logo was showcased for the upcoming third installment in the popular franchise. Set to premiere on May 5, 2023.
- Secret Invasion – On July 23, it was revealed that the long-awaited, and delayed, Secret Invasion series will finally hit our small screens this year. Set to premiere in Early 2023 exclusively on Disney+, no release date has been announced.
- Echo – On July 23, the Hawkeye spin-off was officially revealed on the MCU timeline. Set to premiere in Mid-2023 exclusively on Disney+, no release date has been announced.
- Loki Season 2 – On July 23, new details were revealed about the upcoming second season of Loki. “No time has passed,” since the first season according to creators. Set to premiere in Mid-2023 exclusively on Disney+, no release date has been announced.
- Ironheart – On July 23, new details were revealed about the new hero appearing in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Set to premiere in Late 2023 exclusively on Disney+, no release date has been announced.
- Blade – On July 23, more details were revealed for the upcoming MCU Blade remake. Set to premiere on November 3, 2023.
- Agatha: Coven of Chaos – On July 23, the WandaVision spin-off was officially added to the MCU timeline. Set to premiere in Late 2023 exclusively on Disney+, no release date has been announced.
- Daredevil: Born Again – On July 23, it was announced that the Daredevil continuation would be titled “Daredevil: Born Again.” Set to premiere in Early 2024 exclusively on Disney+, no release date has been announced.
- Captain America: New World Order – On July 23, the film based on the popular Disney+ spin-off, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, was officially announced. Set to premiere on May 3, 2024.
- Thunderbolts – On July 23, a brand-new film based on the Thunderbolts team was officially confirmed by Marvel Studios. Set to premiere on July 26, 2024, wrapping up Phase 5.
- Fantastic Four – On July 23, Marvel’s first family finally got some new details announced. Set to premiere on November 8, 2024, starting up Phase 6.
- Avengers: The Kang Dynasty – On July 23, Kevin Fiege surprised guests as he dropped a bombshell officially revealing the fifth Avengers film. Part 1 is set to premiere on May 5, 2025.
- Avengers: Secret Wars – On July 23, the heavily-rumored Secret Wars title was finally announced! Part 2 is set to premiere on November 7, 2025, wrapping up Phase 7.
AMC
- Tales of the Walking Dead – On July 22, fans of the franchise were given a treat today as a new trailer for the upcoming Tales of the Walking Dead series was revealed. Set to premiere August 14 on AMC.
- The Walking Dead – On July 22, fans of the franchise were also given a look at the final season of the series, with the release of the season 11 trailer. Set to premiere on AMC in October, no release date has been announced.
- The Walking Dead spin-off – After the season 11 trailer was released, fans were thrilled when the studio announced a spin-off starring Rick Grimes and Michonne will premiere on AMC and AMC+ in 2023. No release date has been announced.
Apple TV+
- For All Mankind – On July 22, at the panel dedicated to For All Mankind, Apple had announced that the series was renewed for a fourth season. Set to premiere exclusively on Apple TV+, no release date has been announced. However, production is set to begin next month.
FOX
- Solar Opposites “Halloween Special” – On July 21, fans were given some new looks at season 4 of the series followed-up by an announcement of a Halloween special coming soon. The creators of Solar Opposites revealed that this is only one of many holiday specials in the works. Set to premiere in October, exclusively on Hulu. No release date has been announced.
- Krapopolis – On July 22, a brand-new adult animated comedy was confirmed, along with some special looks attached. Set to premiere November 27 on FOX.
- The Simpsons – An exclusive look at the upcoming 35th season of the adult animated comedy. Two Treehouse of Terror episodes were revealed, along with some additional details on what to expect. Set to premiere in 2023 on FOX.
- The Orville – On July 24, at the panel, it was revealed that all 3 seasons will be available starting August 10, exclusively on Disney+ in the United States, while also remaining on Hulu.
