Please Note: At the time of this writing, many of these projects are just pure speculation and have not yet been officially announced by the company. However, most of the live-action titles have been previously announced.
Let’s get into it!
Live-Action/Animated Series
The Santa Clauses
- After wrapping filming, I expect an announcement regarding the series release at this the upcoming panel! A trailer and release date along with the cast on stage would be amazing!
American Born Chinese
- American Born Chinese wrapped filming several months ago, and I expect to hear more information and possibly a release window for the Disney+ Original at the D23 Expo!
Darkwing Duck
- An official update on what is happening with the upcoming Darkwing Duck revival would be nice, since nothing has been revealed since its announcement. I would love to possibly get a first look or series order at the event, but only time will tell.
Swiss Family Robinson
- Alongside titles such as Little Town, Swiss Family Robinson was also announced to be in the works a few years ago. Not much is known about the plot or details, but I’d expect to hear a bit more about this series at the upcoming D23 Expo.
Finding Nemo
- Due to the success of popular Pixar franchises getting their own series, such as Cars, Toy Story, Monsters Inc. and Up… I think Nemo should be given a chance too!
Ratatouille
- In my opinion, Ratatouille is one of the best films from Pixar, and should be given the chance to be rediscovered by a new generation of fans. To to the massive popularity of this film and its attraction, I think a Ratatouille project whether a shorts series or long-form, this would be a no-brainer for the streamer!
Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire
- With Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire set to release in late 2022, I would expect an announcement of some kind at the D23 Expo regarding the short series Disney+ Original release, and concept art! I would love to see some new concept art for this series and a voice cast reveal!
Live-Action/Animated Films
Dashing Through the Snow
- Currently in production, Dashing Through the Snow is set to be a holiday family comedy. This production was never officially announced by Disney, so hopefully we will find out more information and a release window soon.
Three Men and a Baby
- Since 2020, no other announcements or updates have been given on the upcoming remake for Disney+. Originally set to release sometime in 2022, this release is starting to look a little less likely. Hopefully, Disney will provide fans with an update at the film panel!
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules
- In 2021, Diary of a Wimpy Kid creator Jeff Kinney expressed interest in turning all of his novels into animated features on Disney+. With Diary of the Wimpy Kid released in 2021 and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules releasing sometime this year, hopefully a third installment will be announced. I’m also hoping that a release date for Rodrick Rules will be announced!
Prince Anders
- In the works since 2020, the live-action spin-off of Aladdin will explore Prince Anders and his personal life. The film is still in development and was never officially/formally announced by the company. This might be a surprise reveal at D23.
Spooked
- In the works since 2020, Spooked is a horror-comedy being developed by Disney. Not much is known about this film besides that it is a horror-comedy centered around Halloween.
Sister Act 3
- Since announced, not much news has been revealed about the cast, crew or details about the third installment in the franchise. Whoopi Goldberg is set to reprise her iconic role, with Tim Federle set to direct and Tyler Perry set to produce.
Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again
- Initially set to release in 2021, the animated fourth installment in the franchise is now set to release sometime in 2022. No official details or casting have been revealed yet. Hopefully we will get to receive more information about this project at the upcoming D23 Expo!
Prom Pact
- Set to release in 2023, recently Disney Branded Television has been working on a new coming-of-age comedy-drama film titled “Prom Pact” and starring Peyton Elizabeth Lee as the main character role. More information will likely be announced at the Disney Branded Television panel.
Out of My Mind
- Set to release soon, Disney Branded Television has been working on a new coming-of-age drama film titled “Out of My Mind” and has been filming for the past few weeks! More information will likely be announced at the Disney Branded Television panel.
Descendants: The Pocketwatch
- Set to begin production soon, Disney Branded Television has been working on the upcoming fourth installment of the Descendants film franchise titled “The Pocketwatch.” Not much is known about the details or casting, so I’d expect something to be announced at the Disney Branded Television panel!
