After nearly 2 years of being closed, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Waterpark officially reopened on January 2, 2022 at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. — More details down below!
Let’s get into it!
In 2020, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Waterpark was scheduled for a refurbishment but was delayed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout the months of 2020 and partial of 2021, there were no clear signs of work being done, but the water had been drained leaving the waterpark looking abandoned for nearly one year.
A few months later scaffolding was finally spotted by some eagle-eyed fans and some photos were leaked on social media. It is currently unclear what the extent of this refurbishment was, but luckily Typhoon Lagoon was able to open its gates and welcome back guests for the first time in nearly 2 years since the COVID-19 closure in March 2020.
Guests were very pleased when Typhoon Lagoon opened its gates on Sunday, but along with this great news comes some sad news for Blizzard Beach fans. Blizzard Beach is now closed and will be entering its long-awaited refurbishment. No reopening date has been confirmed yet, but my hope is that it would reopen prior to the spring break demand!
