Rides & Attractions Coming To Walt Disney World in 2022

With Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary coming soon, new rides & attractions have been announced, construction has continued, and new décor have been added around all four theme parks. Although, due the pandemic some attractions were delayed until 2022 or beyond. Down below I have put together a list with descriptions of new attractions coming to Walt Disney World in 2022!

Let’s get into it!

EPCOT

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Disney/Marvel

Over at Epcot, you can expect to find an attraction based on Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy movie. Cosmic Rewind is a roller coaster that travels guests 360° and is set to open before October 1, 2021. Disney had already made a reference to Guardians of The Galaxy when it had taken over the classic “The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror” attraction over at Disney’s California Adventure and turned it into “Mission: Breakout.”

Moana: Journey of Water

Disney

A smaller-scale project coming from the front of Epcot would be “Moana: Journey of Water.”  This is the first EVER created attraction based on the Pixar film: Moana. The walk-through water journey will be a calming environment where guests can interact with water in a beautiful setting, and make some new memories together!

Mary Poppins Attraction – DELAYED

Disney

This Mary Poppins Attraction will be located in the World Showcase section of the Epcot park. This will include a Cherry Tree Lane themed area, meet and greet, and a new Mary Poppins dark ride Attraction. No opening date has been announced by Disney, but I could anticipate this attraction to be up and open to the guests 2022-2024. (RUMOR: This attraction could be scrapped due to 2020 park closures).

Play! Interactive Pavilion

Disney

Epcot will be receiving a brand new interactive family Play Pavilion attraction replacing Wonders of Life for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary! An official opening date has not been released by the Disney Company, but I anticipate the Play Pavilion to be open before mid 2022-2023 due to construction delays.

MAGIC KINGDOM

Tron: Lightcycle Run Rollercoaster

Disney

This hit attraction opened as an opening day attraction over at Shanghai Disneyland and was an immediate success. The Walt Disney World Company has finally started construction for the Tron Roller Coaster in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland as we see a new theme starting. This attraction is currently set to open late 2021 or early 2022.

Splash Mountain Attraction Re-theme

Disney

Due to the events that occurred in 2020, Disney had took action and agreed to re-theme several attractions in their parks including Splash Mountain (closing late 2021), due to their ties to controversial elements. Disney announced that Splash Mountain is going to be re-themed to the first ever Princess and the Frog attraction ever seen in the United States or around the world! This new attraction based on the Princess from New Orleans, USA will open some time in 2022.

Disney

Wreck-It-Ralph Attraction

The Walt Disney World Company has recently filed permits for construction on the old “Stitch’s Great Escape” attraction located in Tomorrowland. The Wreck-It-Ralph interactive audience attraction is set to open between 2020-2022.

HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS

Star Wars: Galactic Star Cruiser Hotel

Lucasfilm/Disney

A new long-hyped Star Wars Galactic Space Cruiser Hotel is about to finally land and open soon in 2022. You will enter the organized cruiser to a two-day experience taking you through many different themed activities, and sleep in a room with great views of Planet Batuu (known as Galaxy’s Edge).

These are just a handful of brand new attractions likely coming to Walt Disney World in 2022. You can definitely expect to see way more attractions or updates to the parks added on to this list as the year progresses.
