With Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary coming soon, new rides & attractions have been announced, construction has continued, and new décor have been added around all four theme parks. Although, due the pandemic some attractions were delayed until 2022 or beyond. Down below I have put together a list with descriptions of new attractions coming to Walt Disney World in 2022!
Let’s get into it!
EPCOT
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
Opening Date: May 27, 2022

Over at Epcot, you can expect to find an attraction based on Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy movie. Cosmic Rewind is a roller coaster that travels guests 360° and is set to open during Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration Disney sometime in summer 2022. Disney had also already made a reference to Guardians of The Galaxy when it had taken over the classic “The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror” attraction over at Disney’s California Adventure and turned it into “Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission: Breakout.”
Moana: Journey of Water
Opening Date: TBA

A smaller-scale project coming from the front of Epcot would be “Moana: Journey of Water.” This is the first EVER created attraction based on the Pixar film: Moana. The walk-through water journey will be a calming environment where guests can interact with water in a beautiful setting, and make some new memories together!
Play! Interactive Pavilion
Opening Date: TBA

Epcot will be receiving a brand new interactive family Play Pavilion attraction replacing Wonders of Life for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary! An official opening date has not been released by the Disney Company, but I anticipate the Play Pavilion to be open before mid 2022-2023 due to construction delays.
MAGIC KINGDOM
Tron: Lightcycle Run Rollercoaster
Opening Date: TBA

This hit attraction opened as an opening day attraction over at Shanghai Disneyland and was an immediate success. The Walt Disney World Company has finally started construction for the Tron Roller Coaster in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland as we see a new theme starting. This attraction is currently set to open late 2021 or early 2022.
Splash Mountain Attraction Re-theme
Opening Date: TBA

Due to the events that occurred in 2020, Disney had took action and agreed to re-theme several attractions in their parks including Splash Mountain due to their ties to controversial elements. Disney announced that Splash Mountain is going to be re-themed to the first ever Princess and the Frog attraction ever seen in the United States or around the world! This new attraction based on the Princess from New Orleans, USA will open some time in 2022 or 2023.
HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS
Star Wars: Galactic Star Cruiser Hotel
Opening Date: March 1, 2022

A new long-hyped Star Wars Galactic Space Cruiser Hotel is about to finally land and open soon in 2022. You will enter the organized cruiser to a two-day experience taking you through many different themed activities, and sleep in a room with great views of Planet Batuu (known as Galaxy’s Edge).
Toy Story Round-Up Rodeo BBQ Restaurant
Opening Date: TBA

A new highly anticipated expansion to Toy Story Land is currently underway and will finally open soon in 2022. Themed to Andy’s lunchbox, guests will enter a cardboard Toy Story-inspired sit down restaurant featuring Woody and friends.
Jessie’s Trading Post
Opening Date: TBA

Located at the exit queue of Toy Story Mania, Jessie’s Trading Post will become a properly themed permanent gift shop themed to the wild west! This new gift shop will replace the former generic themed shop retail location. Slated to open sometime in 2022.
Animal Kingdom
Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… And Beyond!

Opening Date: TBA
Fans will dive into a spectacular stage show filled with puppets, singers and other performers set in the underwater world of Disney and Pixar’s Finding Nemo. This show will be an update to the old Finding Nemo show at Animal Kingdom, rumored to be more focused on Dory. This new show is slated to open in Early Summer 2022.
These are just a handful of brand new attractions likely coming to Walt Disney World in 2022.
